Ultimately, he went with a simple citrine and gold ring. The citrine is an oblong shape and in a six-prong solitaire setting. It's perfect for me for a few reasons: I've aways been drawn to unusual stones, especially ones with character. As a November baby, citrine is among my favorites. I also prefer warm colors over cool ones, hence the yellow gold. As an artist and writer, I am constantly using my hands, so a big ring was not going to be practical. But my engagement ring also is thin because my husband knew I wanted a thicker wedding band.
I think marriage is more important than engagement because it's a lifelong commitment, whereas engagement is temporary, and I wanted my ring set to symbolize that. I designed my band with love birds and had it made by a jeweler in our college town. And since I'm big on layering and contrast, I also got a citrine band to stack with the set. The set is completely unique and very me.
